Sensei Mike Torres

Sensei Mike Torres is an internationally recognized and Okinawan certified 6th degree black belt and Master Instructor (Shihan) in Uechi Ryu Karate and a purple belt in Demian Maia Jiu-Jitsu. He is also a certified Youth Fitness Trainer and Martial Arts Conditioning Coach. Sensei Mike is a retired veteran of our United States Military.

Sensei Mike has trained with world renowned fighters and instructors that include but are not limited to, the late Master Shigeru Takamiyagi, Master Shinjo Gushi, Guru Dan Inosanto, Guru Rick Tucci, Sifu Pedro Cepero Yee, Prof. Royce Gracie, and Prof. Demian Maia.

Mr. Torres was in introduced to karate as a young man by his cousin, Pan American medalist, Sensei Marjorie Rivera in Shorinji Ryu Karate. After Joining the Air Force in 1986, he was fortunate to be stationed on Okinawa and trained directly under Master Shigeru Takamiyagi, a former student of Master Kanei Uechi, for four years. He continued to expose himself to other styles in an effort to supplement his chosen art of Uechi Ryu. He began his training first in Machado Jiu-Jitsu and then in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu under MMA and UFC legend, Royce Gracie. Sensei Mike now trains exclusively under the great and talented athlete, Prof. Demian Maia and his method of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Mr. Torres has also trained in several disciplines from around the world including: Aikido, Okinawan Kobudo, Jeet Kune Do (JKD), Jun Fan Gung Fu, Chen Tai Chi, Hung Ga Gung Fu, Silat, Savate (French Kickboxing), Panantukan (Filipino Kickboxing), Kali (Stick and knife fighting), and others which adds to his understanding of the different ranges of fighting. He has also been a successful competitor, trainer, and coach to other fighters.
